Founded in March 2025 by Simon Evans, journalist with more than two decades of soccer and sports business reporting experience with Reuters and others, The Soccer Business covers the business and commercial side of soccer for the people working in it.

Simon has worked in the soccer space as a journalist since the mid-1990’s when he covered the game in Eastern Europe, joining Reuters news agency as a freelance reporter in Budapest.
After covering the 1998 World Cup, Simon was moved by Reuters to Milan, Italy, where he spent nine years covering Italian football, primarily Serie A, the Champions League and the Azzurri. But he also followed the business of the game in Italy and Europe-wide.
A year, after covering Italy’s triumph at the 2006 World Cup, Simon became U.S sports correspondent for Reuters based in Miami. As well as covering on the field action, he became immersed in the growth of Major League Soccer and its clubs reporting on David Beckham’s arrival at LA Galaxy, the birth of the Seattle Sounders in MLS and multiple expansion stories.
After taking a break from the agency to work with CONCACAF, Simon returned to Reuters and to his homeland of England to be the chief football writer for the agency based in the North West of England. As well as closely following events at Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City, Simon was also responsible for reporting on UEFA and FIFA developments.
He returned to Miami to take on the role of US Sports Correspondent with the French news agency AFP before setting up The Soccer Business Newsletter and Podcast.
